More than 130 cases have been reported in the north of Italy since Friday.

Italy has reported its fourth death from the new coronavirus, an 84-year old man in the Lombardy region.

According to Sky News Italia, at least 152 people in Italy have been infected with COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, and there have been four deaths over the past 48 hours.

Approximately a dozen towns in Italy are in lockdown as a result of the spread of the disease, with Austria now said to be considering some form of border controls.

A “coronavirus taskforce” has been assembled by Austria to discuss whether to introduce border controls with Italy.

A train was stopped from entering Austria from Italy on Sunday evening after it emerged that there were two people with fever symptoms on board.

Cillian De Gascun, The Director of the National Virus Reference Laboratory, recently spoke to JOE about the virus, explaining exactly how it spreads, what we know about it so far, and the potential threat to Ireland.
