movies on TV

It’s Monday.

It’s November. Time is marching on. We don’t have time for idle chat. There’s movies to discuss.

Here’s the pick of what’s on TV this evening.

Daddy’s Home – Film4 – 7.05pm

It’s no The Other Guys, but Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg have good chemistry on screen.

Good watching if you’re up for a few easy laughs.

Little Nicky – Comedy Central – 7.35pm

The Devil’s not-so-bright son goes to New York in order to stop his brothers wreaking havoc.

Roger Ebert said: “The movie surrounding Nicky is actually pretty good – the best Sandler movie to date.”

Roger had obviously never seen Happy Gilmore at that stage…

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – Film4 – 9pm

Chris Pine heads to Russia as he takes on the challenge of becoming Jack Ryan.

If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the Jack Ryan TV series on Amazon Prime.

The Children Act – BBC One – 9pm

A High Court judge must decide if she should order a life-saving blood transfusion for a teenager with cancer even though it goes against the wishes of his parents and their religion.

Emma Thompson stars.

Unknown – TG4 – 9.30pm

I went to see this movie purely because Taken was still fresh in my brain and it promised more scenes of Liam Neeson mercilessly punching people in their thick heads.

But, after waking up in a hospital, Neeson can’t remember if he’s a good guy or a bad guy in this psychological thriller.

In short:

  • Man loses memory.
  • Must try to remember.
  • Violence.

Life – Channel 5 – 11pm

Life is discovered on Mars but unfortunately for us simple humans, that life is extremely intelligent and hostile.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
