Second man arrested in connection with fatal assault at Kerry funeral

Investigations are ongoing.

A second man has been arrested in connection with the fatal assault of Thomas Dooley in Kerry on Wednesday (5 October).

The man, aged in his early 40s, was arrested in Cork city on Thursday afternoon (6 October) and taken to Tralee Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A man in his 30s arrested earlier on Thursday remains in Garda custody.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the grounds of Rathass Cemetery in Tralee following reports of an altercation involving a group of people.

A man in his 40s was discovered with serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by ambulance personnel.

The victim has been named locally as Thomas Dooley and his body was taken to University Hospital Kerry.

A woman in her 40s was also transferred to the same hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

According to multiple reports, Dooley was attacked during a funeral.

Investigating Gardaí continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Any person with camera footage is being asked make it available to An Garda Síochána.
