Italy need all the financial help they can get, so the country’s political powers have announced plans to include revenues from prostitution and illegal drug sales in the country’s GDP figures. New EU rules state that member states need to record the value of all activities that produce income, whether or not they involve the production and consumption of drugs, black market alcohol or cigarettes. It’s thought that the move could actually boost Italy’s figures by up to 2%, and help the country’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi to tackle the country’s deficit. The Bank of Italy believes that the country’s black market activities count for a massive 10% of its GDP.
