This business idea from an Asian bank is a great way to promote young people in business

A great way for young people in business to get ahead.

Speaking on JOE’s business show, All In, which is backed by AIB, the CEO of Chasing Returns, who use behavioural science to help stock market traders make better decisions, Ann Hunt outlined an idea which would help prepare and promote young people in business.

“I was at a conference in Asia actually last year and there was a retail bank giving a talk. One of the things they said was that every senior manager in the company, they were all a certain age profile, had to have a deputy who was a millennial,” Hunt told host, Yvonne Redmond.

“And it was the number two, she was a Chinese woman, she gave the talk and she said, ‘well, I shadow this person because we’re trying to be a disruptive retail bank.’

“That’s a pretty massive step for a company to take but I think because Fintech is so ripe for disruption, they’re more eager to try and push the boat a little bit to make things happen.”

In the same episode, Hunt went on to explain how her experience of stock-market trading meant dealing predominantly with men.

“I know quite a few female founders but I’ve never pitched to a woman, I’ve never sold to a woman, so you know it’s still not perfect.

“When I look at my clients who are the big retail brokers, there is the odd woman on the board but that’s it.

“The power is still very much male-dominated, white male-dominated, let’s face it.

“I read last week about Iceland where if you don’t have 40% women on the board you can now be fined. And as much as I hate quotas I was so happy to read that. If that’s how it has to be then it does make change happen fast, but it’s not perfect.”
