Dr Niamh Shaw talks about failure and success in this incredibly enlightening TEDx Talk that every budding entrepreneur should really check this out…

Failure is something that crosses the minds of almost every entrepreneur at one point or another during the start-up process. If you’ve ever been afraid to take the plunge with your start-up idea because you’re afraid of ‘failing’, then you really need to watch Dr Niamh Shaw’s TEDx Talk above.

Dr Shaw is the 2014 Artist in Residence at the CIT Blackrock Castle Observatory, Cork, and she says that failure, which is defined loosely as ‘a lack of success’, is a necessary part of innovation, creative thought and eureka moments and failures are outcomes of ultimate success.

The moral of the story here is don’t be afraid of trying something you normally wouldn’t just because you might be ‘afraid’.

Maybe you’re afraid of getting in contact with a potential investor, because you think they might say ‘no’. What’s the worst that could happen? At least being told no once will let you see that ‘failing’ isn’t that big of a deal once you’re not afraid of it and at least then you will have the confidence to go on and succeed in what you’re doing.
