Research suggests Marijuana may not be as bad for your health as people think

It's still illegal though.

JOE

It’s still illegal though.

Smoking Marijuana does many things, but lessening your health during your later stages of life is not one of them according to new research.

American researchers recently tracked teenagers who used the drug over two decades and discovered that these people weren’t any more likely to experience a series of illnesses in their late thirties than those who don’t.

The participants in the experiment were aged from 14 – 36.

22% of the participants were heavy users of the drug from a young age but they were found to be no more likely to experience psychosis, anxiety, depression or asthma than their classmates.

The research was carried out by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre and Rutgers University.

Lead researcher of the study Jordan Bechtold said “There were no differences in any of the mental or physical health outcomes that we measured, regardless of the amount or frequency of marijuana used during adolescence.”

But Mr Bechtold also said it was important to take this research as a limited study and that the results may not be representative of the general public.

The study did not include any women and also focused on a certain age group, that being teenage to late thirties.
