Video: Just a 91-year old bench pressing a world record 85kg, no biggie

If you weren’t already feeling inadequate today, then you certainly will after watching a 91-year old man bench-pressing a weight of 85kg. Yes, you read that right.

Thinking about using a sh*tty excuse to avoid going to the gym today? Well then any guilt you might be feeling for skipping your workout probably won’t be helped by watching the amazing Sy Perlis, who yesterday broke the record in the 90 and over age division (such a division actually exists?) at the National Push-Pull Bench Press and Dead Lift Championships in Arizona.

He didn’t just break it, as Richard Keys might say, he smashed it, bench pressing a weight of 187 pounds (approximately 85kg) and destroying the previous record of 135 pounds (approximately 61kg) and doing so in style. In fact, he broke it five times in the one day.

And to think, he only started weightlifting age 60.

Off to the gym we go then.
