All you need is a Google account.
Google is launching a free version of its game streaming service Stadia today and Google is offering a two month free trial to Stadia Pro as part of the launch and also as a distraction for all those social distancing.
Stadia is available in 14 countries including Ireland and if you’ve got a compatible device and controller, you can sign up right now and get the Pro edition with a handful of built-in games for two months.
Users can purchase more games if they wish and they will remain available to them even after the free trial concludes.
If you already have a Stadia Pro subscription, Google will give you the next two months for free.
“We’re facing some of the most challenging times in recent memory. Video games can be a valuable way to socialise with friends and family when you’re stuck at home, so we’re giving gamers in 14 countries free access to Stadia for two months,” Stadia VP and GM Phil Harrison said in a statement.
If you’re new, playing on Stadia is simple:
- Go to Stadia.com to sign up
- Download the Stadia app on Android or iOS
- Play on your laptop, desktop or Chrome OS tablet with your favorite (HID compliant) USB supported controller or mouse and keyboard
- Play over Wi-Fi on Pixel or many supported Android phones
Stadia is also making some temporary changes due to pressures on internet services around the world.
Default screen resolution is being lowered from 4k to 1080p for the foreseeable future.
