Grand Theft Auto 6 reportedly not set to arrive until 2025

The much-anticipated sequel is also rumoured to return to a classic GTA location.

Believe it or not, Grand Theft Auto V was released almost EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Yep, in September 2013, GTAV arrived on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and since then, has seen re-releases on the PS4, Xbox One, PS5 and Xbox Series X, making it the second-best selling game of all time (behind Minecraft).

While fans have had Grand Theft Auto Online to tide them over, the inevitable sequel is probably the most-demanded game right now, but developers Rockstar Games don’t rush into their next project at anyone’s speed but their own.

Since 2013, they’ve only had one proper release, and that was Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. But the five-year gap between those two games had fans wondering if we might be seeing a GTA sequel sometime in the next year or two.

However, reports from several sources, including industry insider Tom Henderson, VGC’s Andy Robinson and Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, all point towards a much-more-likely release date of 2025.

Additionally, all reports suggest that the sequel will bring players back to Vice City, which was first introduced in the 2002 game by the same name. However, unlike that 1986-set release, the new sequel will bring the action to the modern day and will feature a constantly evolving map, much like Fortnite currently has.

Gaming Bible also reports that the game will feature a female protagonist, which would mark the first time Rockstar have placed a female lead in their crime series.

Of course, with the game apparently still so far away from actually being released, this is all still to be taken with several large grains of salt. But for now, any GTA information is enough to get us excited.

Bring on 2025!
