Big news for fans of the game series.

Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be coming to current generation platforms as part of the newly officially announced Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

In a statement issued on Friday (8 October), Rockstar Games said the updated games will be released for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and on PC, via the Rockstar Games Launcher, later this year.

They will also be coming to iOS and Android in the first half of 2022.

“Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will feature across-the-board upgrades including graphical improvements and modern gameplay enhancements for all three titles, while still maintaining the classic look and feel of the originals,” Rockstar Games said.

It stated that the move is to honour the 20th anniversary later this month of the original release of Grand Theft Auto III, often listed among the greatest video games.

In fact, earlier this month, two GTA entries made the list of the top 10 games of all time as picked by the millions who took part in IGN’s public vote.

In preparation for the launch, Rockstar Games announced it will begin removing existing versions of the classic titles from digital retailers next week.

The video game company said more details about the release will be unveiled in the coming weeks.
