JOE takes a look at our pick of the best of Aldi’s winners at the Great Taste Awards this year

Our mates at Aldi have hit a pretty astounding milestone on their Facebook page with 100,000 likes, so we know that a lot of you out there already know about their great selection of products.

Speaking of their Facebook, they’ve got a year’s worth of shopping to give to their biggest fan, so head over to their page and prove that you’re their no.1 fan! The first prize is €5,200 and there are also runner up vouchers of €100 to give away, so you’ve got no excuse to not get involved.

From healthy options to luxury items at bargain prices, there’s plenty on offer, so we’ve decided to pick a few of our favourites that you can pop in your shopping basket without breaking the bank.

O’Sheas Traditional Irish Stout (€1.79)
There’s nothing better than sitting back on these cold winter evenings, flicking the sport on the TV and having a relaxing beer, and O’Sheas Traditional Irish Stout is the perfect thing to make your night complete. At just €1.79 for a bottle, you won’t be disappointed by the flavour, as it picked up a star at the Great Taste Awards as well as bronze at the Blas na hEireann Awards.

Roast Beef Dinner (€3.99)
Sort dinner with the absolute minimum of fuss and keep your pocket happy, even on those days right before pay day when you’re rummaging around the couch for a few extra pennies. This great roast beef dinner is guaranteed to keep the family happy too, as it won at the Irish Quality Food awards this year.

Specially Selected Angus Striploin Steak (€11.99)
When it comes to steak, we tend to see it as a bit of a special treat, but at just €11.99 for these two striploin cuts, we’ll be having it a lot more often. Not only that, but for the gym goers and fitness fanatics out there, it’s one of the best foods you can eat, with plenty of protein packed in. Partner it with some sweet potatoes for a delicious and healthy meal.

Alcafe Original Blend Roast & Ground Coffee (€3.19)
JOE doesn’t mind admitting that when it comes to having our morning cup of Joe, we can be pretty choosy. Nothing beats the few moments of peace you can get when you make a cup of coffee is only matched by that very pleasant smell while it’s brewing. Alcafe’s original blend is nice and strong without being overly bitter, which is why it scooped two awards at the Great Taste Awards.

Irish Cheese Selection – Tipperary Blue (€2.99)
Blue cheese is great in salads (throw in some pears and walnuts and people will think you’re a Michelin star chef), sauces or simply on its own on top of a cracker. Besides, bringing out a cheeseboard when you’ve got people visiting, something we can expect a good bit of in the run up to Christmas, makes you look incredibly fancy. Not only that, but Aldi’s Blue scooped two prizes at the Great Taste Awards too.
