The world’s best-selling roadster, the Mazda MX-5, has shamelessly added another accolade to its 20-year history by pulling away with the ‘Best Sports Car’ award in last week’s JD Power Survey.

The JD Power vehicle ownership satisfaction survey was the result of over 17,000 UK car owner votes, with Mazda’s two-seater sports car receiving top honours for appearance, exterior and interior quality and mechanical reliability, performance, running costs and finally for dealer services. Whew.

In all, the MX-5 received a satisfaction rating of 82.3 percent, besting its Mercedes Benz SLK, VW Eos and Audi TT rivals for the ‘Best-in-Class’ honours. JD Power were effusive in their praise for the roadster, stating that the MX-5 “has a trophy cabinet full of JD Power Awards and can now add this year’s title too”.

An iconic car, Mazda’s gem received fine praise last year from automotive critic and Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson who stated simply last year: “The fact is that if you want a sports car, the MX-5 is perfect. Nothing will give you so much fun. The only reason I’m giving it five stars is because I can’t give it 14”.

Ownership experience of the Mazda MX-5 echoes that of all our other models in the Mazda range. “Our customers enjoy outstanding driving performance, the highest levels of reliability and build quality, matched by low running costs,” echoed David McGonigle, MD of Mazda Motor Ireland.

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the MX -5, Mazda are also offering their prized motor for a limited time at just €23,495*. We’re waiting patiently by the phone for a test-drive lads.
