Meet the Duffin; the latest advancement in snack technology

JOE

Starbucks in the UK have decided to cram another sugary treat in to Britain’s already bloated snack hole

If you haven’t heard about the cronut yet, then you’re probably still alive and diabetes-free, which is a good thing of course. If you haven’t, it’s a cross between a donut and a croissant, and requires six cows to produce the requisite amount of butter and cream to create it, as we understand it.

With that said, we still want to try one as we’re big donut fans in JOE towers, in particular we like a good Boston Creme, and all donations to our belly the cause will be gratefully accepted.

We were then naturally very excited when we learned from the lads at GQ about the existence of the Duffin, the answer to the Cronut from the guys at Starbucks. On the outside it has the shape of the muffin, but it’s coated in donut-esque sugar and inside holds jammy goodness.

It is not without controversy that the Duffin has come to be though, as it seems that a bakery in London, Bea’s of Bloomsbury has been making Duffins for the past two years, and has launched a Twitter campaign (which you can follow with the hashtag #duffingate) as a result of Starbucks copyrighting the name.

As yet the Duffin hasn’t appeared on the menu on the Starbucks Ireland website, but we’re sure that it will make its way over here at some stage, at which point we will be sampling it, despite the fact that GQ didn’t find it appealing to their tastes.
