PIC: This spectacular ‘sea sparkle’ will be visible in Kerry again tonight

Ventry Beach is putting on quite the light show

Tony Cuddihy

A natural phenomenon is set to occur on Ventry Beach in County Kerry tonight.

A magnificent blue glow will hit Ventry in Kerry – close to Dingle – tonight, as something called a ‘Sea Sparkle’ occurs naturally.

However, while it’s great to look at, the glow is an indicator of a harmful algal bloom created by something called Noctiluca scintillans so it’s probably better viewed from afar.

No skinny-dipping, lads, unless you want to come out looking like this.
