Video: Hearing Morgan Freeman’s voice after he’s just inhaled helium is as great as you’d expect

It might seem sacrilegious to make any changes at all to probably the best voice in the history of show business, but this is just great.

It might seem sacrilegious to make any changes at all to probably the best voice in the history of show business, but this is just great.

Sure, he milked it there for a while by appearing in quite a few terrible movies, but every time Morgan Freeman speaks it is hard to get away from the fact that his gravelly voice is probably the best ever heard in the history of the movies.

If God had a voice (as he did in Bruce Almighty) he’d have Morgan Freeman’s voice. When Freeman speaks, you listen. Hell, the man could read the contents off the back of a cereal box and make it sound epic; he’s that good.

You’d assume then, that everything would be ruined when, in an ad for Through The Wormhole on The Science Channel, Freeman did what every slightly immature person does when they come across a helium balloon and deflated it so that he could inhale the air and raise the level of his voice up a couple of octaves.

Thankfully, while it’s very funny to hear Freeman on helium – and you know Freeman is genuine rather than unconsciously speaking in a higher tone just because he’s inhaled helium, as most people do – his voice still manages to retain the gravitas we have come to expect from the great man.

Imagine watching The Shawshank Redemption all over again with Red using this voice throughout the entire movie? That would be sweet.
