Why going for a nap during the day will make you more productive at work and college

Bring a pillow to work or college tomorrow guys.

We’ve been campaigning for a long time to bring the Latin practice of the siesta into Irish society.*

Who wouldn’t love a nap in the afternoon when the inevitable slump kicks in and your brain turns to mush.

Our campaign has gathered some pace today because research has proved that it’s very beneficial to take a power nap during the day.

According report published in the journal of Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, naps are good for your memory.

In the study, 41 students were taught 90 words and 120 unrelated word pairs such as “taxi milk”.

After taking in all the information, half the students were allowed to take a power nap and the other half watched a movie.

They were all tested again and the study found the students who napped were much better at remembering the words.

According to i100, Professor Axel Mecklinger, who supervised the study, said: “Even a short sleep lasting 45 to 60 minutes produces a five-fold improvement in information retrieval from memory.”

A five-fold improvement. Five-fold.

There you have it, hard proof that you should take a nap this afternoon.

*We do not have a campaign to bring siestas into Irish society, we just made that up just for this article.
