2018 Jungle Book remake has been given a new name

Carl Kinsella

Probably a wise move given that it’s the second Jungle Book remake in three years…

Andy Serkis’ reboot of classic children’s tale The Jungle Book has changed its name from The Jungle Book: Origins to Mowgli, after the child at the heart of the story.

The movie, a retelling of the 19th century short stories by Rudyard Kipling, is expected to offer a darker vibe than Disney’s previous two efforts — the animated classic released in 1967, and the 2016 live-action version which starred Bill Murray, Idris Elba and Christopher Walken.

Serkis, who is famous for playing roles that involve performance capture technology, such as Gollum in Lord Of The Rings or Supreme Commander Snoke in the new Star Wars trilogy, will direct the latest remake of The Jungle Book. It’s expected to be in theatres by October of next year.
