Peaky Blinders creator thinks Season 5 is “on another level, it’s fantastic”

Paul Moore

Cillian Murphy Peaky Blinders

He’s currently writing Season 6 and another season is definitely coming too.

If you had to offer an opinion on who might have the unofficial title of the busiest man in Hollywood, the name of Steven Knight might be at the top of your list.

Fresh from writing the next season of Peaky Blinders – it’s currently being edited – Knight has also directed the upcoming thriller Serenity, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

He’s also working on – take a deep breath – Season 2 of Taboo, an adaptation of A Christmas Carol for the BBC, Apple’s new sci-fi show See, a film called Rio and he was also involved with the script for World War Z 2.

Again, a very busy man.

When it comes to Peaky Blinders, you always get the impression that Knight would happily drop every other project that’s on his plate because the Shelby family are his real passion project.

While self-promotion and generating buzz ahead of the new season is to be expected, Knight has been steadfast in his belief that Season 5 of the gangster drama is the best one yet and he reaffirmed this stance during a recent chat with the BBC.

“Four days ago, I saw the first two episodes cut together. I would say this wouldn’t I, but I have to say that it is on another level. It’s fantastic.”

During the interview, the director of Locke repeated that Season 6 and 7 are definitely on the way. In fact, he’s currently writing Season 6.

Elsewhere, Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly) popped into The One Show to have a chat about her new role in Mother, Father, Son and she also stated her belief that Season 5 is the best one yet.

After reading the script, McCrory said that she instantly phoned Cillian Murphy for a chat and both actors agreed that it’s the best season yet.

As for  a premiere date, the BBC haven’t confirmed an official date yet but a few weeks ago, Harry Kirton (Finn) said: “Peaky is probably coming out at the other end of this year. So, September/October time. I’m very excited and you should be to. Finn has to grow up (in the new) season,” he added.

We can’t wait.
