Netflix has just added one of 2024’s biggest action movies

One for fans of old school action flicks.

Netflix has just added Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, the new fourth entry in the legendary action comedy movie franchise.

Eddie Murphy reprises his role as Axel Foley, a Detroit police officer who travels back to Beverly Hills after his estranged lawyer daughter, Jane Saunders (Taylour Paige, Zola) is threatened and his long-time former cop friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) goes missing.

Arriving in the city – Axel, Jane and her detective ex-boyfriend Bobby Abbott (Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Looper) eventually wind up teaming together to restore justice.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F also features a returning to the franchise Bronson Pinchot, John Ashton and Paul Reiser, as well as Kevin Bacon (MaXXXine) and Luis Guzmán (Boogie Nights).

Made for a reported $150 million, we’re happy to report that the fourth film in the action comedy series is quite watchable – playing out like a modern-day, more action-packed remix of the original 1984 classic.

In particular, it boasts an impressively staged and fun helicopter chase sequence – as well as plenty of that iconic theme tune.

Generally considered a return to form for the franchise, you can read a sample of some of the positive reviews for Axel F right here:

Daily Telegraph (UK): “This absolutely is your father’s (and grandfather’s) Beverly Hills Cop, and for all its brazen route-one idiocy I ended up wanting to give it a hug.”

Detroit News: “The new film doesn’t do anything revolutionary but it gets by on its familiarity, like seeing an old friend and reminiscing about the old days over a couple of beer.”

Mashable: “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F isn’t just a great sequel, or an awesome action-comedy, it might just be the most entertaining movie of the year.”

San Francisco Chronicle: “[Murphy’s] comic timing remains impeccable, and laughing with him here is both fresh and familiar, an ideal combination.”

Slant Magazine: “It’s a film of familiar pleasures, but like Harold Faltermeyer’s still infectiously enjoyable synth-pop theme, they do remain highly pleasurable.”

USA Today: “A confident fourth outing in the action-comedy franchise. And while it’s a very modern release – via streaming rather than movie theatres – everything else leans pretty old school.”

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, as well as the previous three entries in the franchise, are streaming on Netflix in Ireland and the UK.
