The first trailer has been released for the new Irish thriller movie Bugonia, which comes from the acclaimed filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite, Poor Things).
A remake of the cult South Korean film Save the Green Planet!, Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men (one of whom is played by Oscar-nominee Jesse Plemons - The Power of the Dog), who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company (two-time Oscar-winner Emma Stone - La La Land, Poor Things).
This is because they are convinced that she is secretly an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.
Bugonia has plenty of talent involved with the project, both onscreen and off.
Also a part of its cast are Alicia Silverstone (Clueless) and comedian Stavros Halkias (Tires), as well as newcomer Aidan Delbis.
Meanwhile, Lanthimos will direct the movie from a script by Will Tracy, who is best known for penning the hit 2022 thriller film The Menu, as well as several episodes of the beloved TV series Succession.
On top of this, Bugonia is produced by Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) and will feature cinematography by the Oscar-nominated Irish filmmaker Robbie Ryan (Poor Things).
The movie is co-produced as well by the Dublin-based company Element Pictures (Normal People, Room).
Given the pedigree of those attached to Bugonia, the film had already been one of 2025's most anticipated.
Now, though, you can check out its stylish, tense, darkly comic new teaser trailer, which features a very unexpected needle drop. The film arrives in cinemas on 31 October.
