Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson have gone from the high of last Tuesday’s Golden Globes awards ceremony to being sidelined for this evening’s Critics Choice Awards.

Farrell and Gleeson are both doing the awards circuit, in the United States, in the lead-up to the Oscars following the critical success of their movie, The Banshees of Inisherin.

The actors must sit out the Critics Choice shindig, however, after both tested positive for Covid-19. Marc Malkin, senior culture and events editor for Variety broke the news today.

Actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who is nominated for her performance in ‘Everything Everywhere, All At Once’ has also confirmed she has tested positive for coronavirus and will be eschewing the awards, this evening.

Colin Farrell is up for Best Actor at the awards ceremony while Brendan Gleeson is up for Best Supporting Actor, for their roles in Martin McDonagh’s film. On Tuesday, Farrell gave a wonderful speech after winning his second Golden Globe awards [the first was for In Bruges, in 2008]. He said:

Martin McDonagh, I owe you so much man. 14 years ago, you put me working with Brendan Gleeson, my dance partner, and you changed the trajectory of my life forever in ways that I begrudgingly will be grateful to you for the rest of my days,” the actor said.

“I never expect films to work or to find an audience and when they do, it’s shocking to me and so, I’m so horrified by what’s happened around Banshees over the last couple of months – in a thrilling kind of way.”

Farrell also had kind words for Gleeson, telling him: “I love you so much. To get to cohabitate this creative space with you every day, all I did when I came to work every day was aspire to be your equal.

“I’m not saying I even got there, but the aspiration kept me going and I thank you for that for the rest of my days.”

While the positive tests are a set-back for the two actors, they will hopefully get cleared in the coming days and be able to resume the long-running awards circuit.
