Colin Farrell is all of us when he runs into Gary Oldman on the red carpet

Paul Moore

Well, Gary Oldman is a bloody legend.

If you were to write a list of the biggest snubs in Academy Awards history, it’s very likely that a few of these names will appear. Just remember that we’re now living in a world where Suicide Squad has won an Oscar (Best Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling) and the following people have not.

Ridley Scott, Alfred Hitchcock, Peter O’Toole and sadly, Gary Oldman.

Given the fact that the English actor has consistently been brilliant in the likes of True Romance, Sid and Nancy, The Firm, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Nil By Mouth, this oversight is very odd.

In fact, the Londoner has only been nominated for one Academy Award.

All this without even mentioning his incredibly strong turns in the Harry Potter films, Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy and countless other films.

Mmm, there’s something else that we’re missing. What is it?

Oh yeah, his performance as the corrupt, unhinged and cultured DEA agent Stansfield in Leon still ranks as one of the best villains in the history of film.

Given that Oldman is a screen icon, it’s lovely to see that his fellow actors also get a little bit starstruck when meeting him for the first time.

Colin Farrell was in CinemaCon this afternoon and in an interview with MTV News, the Irish actor was asked about a potential role in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

At the 2:10 mark, Oldman appears out of nowhere and it’s clear that Farrell has an incredible amount of respect and admiration for the Londoner.

Take a look as Farrell’s face absolutely lights up when Oldman tell him that he’s “such a spectacular actor” and that he’s “such a fan” of the In Bruges and Minority report star.

As Harry Potter fans might say…magic.
