Mac from It’s Always Sunny had some very surprising things to say about Dennis and the new season

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

This kind of goes against everything we’d heard about the return of the show so far…

What a rollercoaster this has been.

A fair few months back, it was announced that Dennis (Glenn Howerton) most likely wouldn’t be returning to It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia at all, deciding at the end of the most recent season to become a responsible adult to settle down with his new family.

The gang seemed to be moving forward without him, especially Mac (Rob McElhenney), who got unbelievably ripped for the new season and showed off the new bod on the Paddy’s Pub float during Philadelphia Pride week.

Then the latest teaser got fans talking because a lot of people reckon that it was secretly – albeit in plain sight – showing the return of Dennis. Or maybe not. It was pretty hard to tell.

And now this!

During a chat with the Television Critics Association on Friday, McElhenney told those in attendance that “He’s in pretty much every episode.”

Wait, what?

Charlie Day followed that up with:

“Every year that we make this show, it’s just a couple months before we start writing that we figure out how it’s going to work. When [Howerton] left to do A.P. Bio, we respected and honored that.

“What we got, the fans will have to tune in and see. But I think they’ll be happy.”

That sounds fairly ominous, and we’ll have to wait until Wednesday 5 September to find out, but is anyone else suddenly being reminded of the time the South Park writers were forced to kill off Chef, but still used old footage to keep him in one more episode…?
