Every serial killer lives next door to someone…
Nostalgia horror is on the rise, and it doesn’t appear to be going anywhere in a hurry.
Thanks to the likes of Netflix’s hit creepfest show Stranger Things, as well as the childhood-set first chapter of the most recent telling of Stephen King’s IT, we are currently in the midst of an 80’s set horror movie onslaught, all filled their ranks with a group of rag-tag kids attempting to deal with a situation that they have no way of coping with properly.
Where Summer Of ’84 differs is that this isn’t some inter-dimensional creature or evil clown, but your run-of-the-mill serial killer, which only makes it all the scarier.
The movie recently had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, were the directors confirmed during a post-screening Q&A session (via The Verge) that Stranger Things is most likely the reason why producers gave them the money to make this movie in the first place.
And we’re very happy that they did, because this short, sharp teaser is overflowing with nostalgic horror nods, from the synth-heavy score, to the weirdly bad lighting, to the unsettling shocks which (as viewers in the audience at the screening can attest to) resulted in some very violent ends for the some of the characters.
There is no set release date for the movie here yet, but we imagine it will be picked up by distributors before long.
