Hugh Jackman: 6 reasons that we all want to be his mate

Anyone else want to hang out with Wolverine?

Hugh Jackman shot to fame as Wolverine in the X-Men films but he’s shown that he’s more than just a pair of oversized sideburns and some pointy claws. He’s since gone on to play everything from a be-mulleted bad guy in Chappie to a musical thief in Les Misérables.

He may be a versatile actor but he also seems like a pretty sound head. Here’s why we’d all like to hang out with the Aussie actor.

He doesn’t take himself too seriously

Jackman was constantly targeted by Ryan Reynolds when the sarky Canadian was promoting the Deadpool movie. Instead of getting annoyed, Jackman actually joined in the joke and ran with it.

Ryan Reynolds: “Do you ever age?”

Jackman: “Not since 2008.”

He’s a normal bloke

Jackman didn’t do the usual Aussie actor apprenticeship in Neighbours or Home & Away. Instead, he went to school and college. He even spent some time as a teacher, as the above video shows.

So he’s just like us. Apart from the money, the fame, the talent and the success…

He seems like good craic

These lads are having way too much fun for a bunch of actors on a promotional tour. Their on-set stories include BB gun fights, punching competitions, golf cart racing and friendly slagging.

We reckon he’d be a great man to have a pint with.

We need some workout tips

We all secretly believe that we could look like Wolverine if we did a few press-ups and ate our body weight in chicken breasts. It’s not that we lack the discipline/genetics for that kind of transformation.

We just need our new buddy Hugh to let us in on his secret. It’s probably some type of protein bar.

He’s a good mate

We’d probably have been too busy sniggering shocked to help Jennifer Laurence up when she took a tumble at the Oscars. Not Jackman.

He was straight up there to give his co-star a helping hand. This guy’s got your back.

He’s the Wolverine

Wolverine is just a fantastic character and his patented brand of clawed violence and moody frowning has brought us some great cinematic moments.

He was the best thing about the X-Men movies for years and that’s purely down to Jackman. Not bad for someone who wasn’t even the first choice for the role.

Anyone who can create such a memorable character is alright by us.

The third solo film featuring Wolverine is set in the near future, with Logan looking after an ageing Professor X near the Mexican border. However, the arrival of a young mutant means that he can no longer continue to hide from the world.

Logan is in cinemas from 1 March.
