Jim Carrey “seriously” wants to retire after 40 years in showbiz

Jim Carrey has said he is considering calling it a day on his entertainment career, after four decades in the business. The 60-year-old was talking to Access Hollywood ahead of the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, when he was asked about Dolly Parton wanting him to play her music partner Porter Wagoner. In answering the question, Carrey casually said that he was "retiring." When interviewer Kit Hoover pressed him on this, unsure if he was joking or not, the Canadian said he was "being fairly serious." But he hasn't totally committed to the idea of retirement, adding: "It depends, if the angels bring some sort of script that's written in gold ink that says to me that it's gonna be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I'm taking a break. "I really like my quiet life and I really love putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life. "I feel like this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists. I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough." Clip via Access Carrey doesn't have any films in the pipeline after the Sonic sequel, in which he reprises his role as Dr Eggman. However, he is set to feature in a Netflix special honoring Bob Saget, alongside the likes of Chris Rock, John Mayer and Jeff Ross. Carrey also made headlines earlier this week when he spoke about Will Smith's infamous slap. The comic actor told CBS that he was "sickened by the standing ovation" that Smith got when he went up to collect his Oscar for Best Actor, just moments after he had hit Chris Rock for the joke he made about his wife Jada. Carrey went on to describe Hollywood as "spineless en masse" and said if it were him who had been hit he would be "suing Will for $200 million."
