The Dalkey legend looms large in this evening’s movies on TV offerings.
Hungover from Friday night’s shenanigans?
Looking to spend a quiet night in?
Well, here’s what the movie on TV situation looks like this Saturday (12 February).
The Bourne Ultimatum / Suburbicon – RTÉ2 – 8.50pm / 11.50pm
Dalkey’s favourite Hollywood star Matt Damon features in two movies on TV tonight.
The first is the third and generally considered best entry in the Bourne franchise.
In the action-packed spy series, the actor plays a former CIA assassin suffering from amnesia.
The second is Suburbicon which is directed by George Clooney and has a screenplay credit for the Coen Brothers.
It’s essentially a Fargo-lite dark comedy crime film where Damon plays a seemingly normal husband and father hiding a dark secret.
Mad Max – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
The first in the classic apocalyptic action sci-fi series.
White Chicks – Comedy Central – 9pm
This critically panned comedy about two black FBI agents (Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans) who go undercover using whiteface as women to solve a kidnapping plot has its defenders.
Mechanic: Resurrection – Film4 – 9pm
A pretty forgettable Jason Statham-starring action flick.
Minority Report – Sky Showcase – 9.30pm
Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise teamed up for this excellent adaptation of legendary sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick’s short story of the same name.
The Predator – Channel 4 – 9.30pm
A chaotic and convoluted if entertaining entry in the legendary action-horror franchise.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels – TG4 – 10.15pm
This much-loved ’80s comedy sees Steve Martin and Michael Caine play duelling con men who bet to see which one of them can swindle a young heiress from her money first.
Black Rain – Film4 – 11pm
An incredibly cool ’80s action flick about two New York cops (Andy Garcia and Michael Douglas) who arrest a Yakuza member and are tasked with escorting him when he’s extradited to Japan.
20th Century Women – BBC Two – 11.10pm
This funny, smart and warm comedy-drama tells the story of a teenage boy, as well as his mother (Annette Bening) and two other women (Elle Fanning and Greta Gerwig) who help raise him in ’70s California.
No Strings Attached – Comedy Central – 11.20pm
Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman star in this rom-com as two friends who decide to make a pact to have a “no strings attached” relationship.
