Watch out for 200-year-old absinthe…

Well, here we are.

The last weekend of August.

This time next week, a lot of us will be throwing shapes left and right in a field in Stradbally during Electric Picnic.

So, it’s probably a good idea to take it easy before the madness begins this Friday.

And what better way to chill out than with a great film on your television?

Here’s JOE’s top picks for the best movies on your TV screens this Sunday (28 August).

Stardust – ITV2 – 6.35pm

Based on the Neil Gaiman book of the same name, this adventure stars Charlie Cox, Claire Danes, Robert De Niro, and the sonorous tones of Ian McKellen.

The Devil Wears Prada – E4 – 8pm

Meryl Streep steals the show in this intensely quotable comedy-drama.

About A Boy – RTÉ Two – 9pm

Hugh Grant, post-floppy hair, stars in this lovable rom-com which is… about a boy. See what they did there?

Angel Has Fallen – RTÉ One – 9.30pm

Well, pick them up again, so.

Girls Trip – E4 – 10.10pm

Our top pick for tonight is one of the best comedies of the 2010’s, with some great cameos to boot.

Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Tiffany Haddish and Jada Pinkett Smith star as four friends who travel to New Orleans for a weekend they won’t forget any time soon.

It’s laugh out funny, with plenty of heart to go around too. Once you watch it, you’ll be wanting to hear about a sequel.

Coincidentally, we spoke to the film’s producer Will Packer about the upcoming sequel, and the girls might just come to Ireland…

Gladiator – UTV – 10.20pm

Someone once told me that their hot take was that Troy was better than Gladiator. Do you agree?

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – Channel 4 – 11pm

A so-so Tim Burton film, with Irish representation from Chris O’Dowd.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
