Several people behind the movie worked on the John Wick franchise.
Netflix has just released a powerful new Irish documentary, while Prime Video has added what’s been called “the first must-see show of 2024”.
But if you need more to watch this Saturday evening, here are the movies airing on TV:
Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit – Film4 – 9pm
Chris Pine is the titular CIA man created by author Tom Clancy in this decent action thriller.
The Courier – Legend – 9pm
The first of two movies on TV tonight with this title – this one is an action thriller with Gary Oldman and Olga Kurylenko.
Ali – TG4 – 9.05pm
Legendary director Michael Mann’s excellent sports biopic about boxer Muhammad Ali (Will Smith).
Nobody – Channel 4 – 9.10pm
Our pick for tonight is this 2021 action movie about a seemingly ordinary man named Hutch (Bob Odenkirk) whose family is the victim of a home invasion.
After Hutch is seen as a failure for not standing up to the thieves, he sets out to retrieve a bracelet the criminals stole from his wife (Connie Nielsen).
Doing so, however, sets off a chain of events that threatens to drag Hutch back to his mysterious, violent past that he swore to leave behind.
Coming from the writer of the first three John Wicks and also featuring amongst its cast Aleksei Serebryakov, Christopher Lloyd, Colin Salmon, Michael Ironside and RZA – Nobody’s terrific against-type lead performance from Odenkirk, its fun screenplay and its bone-crunching action sequences suggest the film will go on to be seen as an action classic.
Holding an 84% Rotten Tomatoes score, Nobody is also available to stream on NOW Movies. Check out JOE’s interview with Odenkirk for the movie right here:
Michael Collins – RTÉ2 – 9.30pm
Liam Neeson is Michael Collins in writer-director Neil Jordan’s very watchable historical drama.
The Courier – MTV – 10pm
This historical spy film starring Benedict Cumberbatch was much better reviewed than the other movie titled The Courier on this list.
The Change-Up – Comedy Central – 10pm
Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds play best friends that swap bodies in this R-rated and critically-panned comedy.
Speed – ITV4 – 10.35pm
Or as Homer Simpson called it: “The bus that couldn’t slow down”.
War for the Planet of the Apes – Channel 4 – 11pm
The third entry in the Planet of the Apes reboot series adds Woody Harrelson to the franchise.
The Resident – Legend Xtra – 11pm
In this horror, a woman (two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank) comes to suspect she is being stalked after moving into a new Brooklyn loft.
Bob Odenkirk in the action film Nobody, our TV movie pick for tonight
Red Sonja – Pick – 11pm
The 1985 spin-off to Conan the Barbarian starring Brigitte Nielsen.
Becky – Legend – 11pm
In this well-reviewed action thriller, a father (Joel McHale) and daughter (Lulu Wilson) are targeted while at their vacation home by a gang of Neo-Nazis (led by a cast against type Kevin James)
Team America: World Police – Film4 – 11.10pm
The beloved action comedy satire made with puppets.
A Fish Called Wanda – BBC One – 11.40pm
John Cleese, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kevin Kline and Michael Palin star in this much-loved ’80s heist comedy.
