A modern cult classic is among the movies on TV tonight

This Oscar nominated movie is an unforgettable watch.

Netflix has just added 11 very big movies to its library but if none of these are for you, here are the films airing on TV this Saturday night:

Nothing Compares – Sky Showcase – 9pm

Last year’s powerful documentary about legendary Irish singer Sinéad O’Connor who passed away this week.

Ransom – RTÉ2 – 9pm

This terrifically tense 90’s thriller, follows a multi-millionaire (Mel Gibson) whose son is kidnapped. After initially agreeing to pay the ransom, the dad then decides to use the money as a bounty on the perpetrators of the crime.

Mean Girls – Film4 – 9pm

A totally fetch movie.

Along Came Polly – Comedy Central – 9pm

This average romcom starring Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston boasts a hilarious supporting turn by the great Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Paranormal Activity – Horror Xtra – 9pm

The supremely creepy micro-budget found footage horror that launched a hit franchise.

Burden – AMC UK – 9pm

This 2018 drama focuses on a former member of the Ku Klux Klan (Garrett Hedlund) who learns tolerance through love and faith when he is taken in by an African American reverend (Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker).

Being John Malkovich – TG4 – 9.45pm

A puppeteer (John Cusack) discovers a portal that leads into acclaimed actor John Malkovich’s mind in what is one of the best and weirdest comedies ever.

RoboCop – ITV4 – 10.10pm

“Dead or alive, you are coming with me.”

The Full Monty – BBC One – 10.25pm

The smash hit ’90s British comedy about six unemployed Sheffield men who decide to form a male striptease act.

Greed – Channel 4 – 10.30pm

Steve Coogan and David Mitchell star in this satirical black comedy about a billionaire high-street fashion mogul.

The Golem – Horror Xtra – 10.50pm

This Israeli period supernatural horror has an impressive 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Event Horizon – Film4 – 10.55pm

Laurence Fishburne and Sam Neill are among the cast of this very unsettling horror about a group of astronauts investigating a spaceship that disappeared but has suddenly returned.

Due Date – Quest – 11pm

Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis star in this road trip comedy from the director of The Hangover.

Nightcrawler – AMC UK – 11.15pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2014 movie about a petty criminal and sociopath named Lou Bloom (a never better Jake Gyllenhaal) who decides to drive around Los Angeles at night to record violent events in order to sell the footage to TV news stations.

However, as Bloom manages to find success doing this work, he begins to take greater and greater risks to get the perfect shot.

With its gorgeous nocturnal cinematography, its dark and twisty tale of unethical journalism and one of the most unsettling performances of recent memory by Gyllenhaal, Nightcrawler makes for an unforgettable watch.

Along with airing on TV tonight, the film – which received a Best Original Screenplay Oscar nomination – is also available to stream on Netflix.

Malcolm X – RTÉ2 – 11.15pm

Legendary director Spike Lee and legendary actor Denzel Washington’s incredible biopic about the black civil rights activist.

Gringo – BBC One – 11.50pm

David Oyelowo gives a fun lead performance is this unremarkable but watchable crime comedy.
