A stellar sci-fi sequel is among the movies on TV tonight

There’s an absolutely packed line-up of movies airing tonight.

Christmas Day may have passed but that doesn’t mean you can’t still unwind with a good movie or two this evening.

Here’s what’s on the box this Monday night (27 December).

Blade Runner 2049 – BBC Two – 9pm

Our pick for this evening centres on a young android blade runner (Ryan Gosling) who uncovers a secret that threatens to destabilise society, leading him to track down former blade runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford).

The long-awaited follow-up to the 1982 sci-fi cult classic, 2049 more than lives up to expectations, boasting jaw-dropping visuals while continuing the original’s fascinating exploration of what it means to be human.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – RTÉ2 – 9pm

A solid sequel to the hit Will Ferrell comedy.

Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol – Comedy Central – 9pm

For my money, the second best Mission: Impossible movie.

Die Hard – ITV4 – 9pm

A seasonal classic.

Atomic Blonde – Film4 – 9pm

A hard-hitting, stylish action flick starring Charlize Theron.

Passenger 57 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

The movie that made Wesley Snipes an action star.

Spider-Man 3 – W – 9pm

The finale to the Tobey Maguire-starring Spider-Man trilogy.

SAS: Red Notice – Sky Showcase – 9pm

A British action-thriller.

Exorcist: The Beginning – Horror Channel – 9pm

A prequel to horror masterpiece The Exorcist.

Bridesmaids – TG4 – 9.20pm

One of the most beloved comedies of the past decade.

The Festival – E4 – 10pm

In this British comedy, a recently dumped young man and his best mate decide to spend three days at a music festival.

Jarhead – Turner Classic Movies – 10.45pm

Jake Gyllenhaal stars in this 2005 war drama.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum – Virgin Media Two – 11pm

Keanu Reeves shows off his action prowess once again.

American Made – More4 – 11.05pm

Tom Cruise leads the cast in this incredibly entertaining crime-comedy.

A charming Irish comedy-drama.

Saturday Night Fever – RTÉ One – 12.55am

John Travolta stars in this much-loved drama about a young man who tries to escape his problems by dominating the dance floor at the local disco.
