It was the first in a franchise that will see its 13th film released next month.
Staying in this rainy Saturday night?
Well not to worry as there is plenty on offer in terms of movie and TV entertainment.

This comedy spoof sequel is nowhere near as good as the original but it has its moments.

Das Boot – Great! Movies Classic – 11.05pm
Set during World War II, this much-loved war film follows a German U-boat and its crew, as they set out on a hazardous patrol in the Battle of the Atlantic.
Halloween – Film4 – 11.20pm
Our pick for tonight, this landmark slasher movie revolves around murderer Michael Myers who escapes from a psychiatric hospital and returns to his hometown of Haddonfield in Illinois to kill again.
There, he sets his sights on teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), all the while his psychiatrist Dr. Samuel Loomis (Donald Pleasance) tries to stop him.
Directed by John Carpenter, 1978’s Halloween would go on to spawn a franchise, with its 13th entry Halloween Ends due for release in October.
That said, none of its remakes or sequels match the original, thanks to its emphasis on suspense over violence, its tight screenplay, its incredible performances and its unforgettable ending.
The Program – BBC One – 11.55pm
One for sports fans, The Program tells the true story of an Irish sports journalist (Chris O’Dowd) who becomes convinced that Lance Armstrong’s performances during the Tour de France victories are fueled by banned substances.
With this conviction, he starts hunting for evidence that will expose Armstrong (played by Ben Foster).
