A classic and claustrophobic war film is among the movies on TV tonight

Movies on TV Thursday 16 September

Thursday.

The penultimate day of the working week for many.

Just simply ‘Thursday’ for others.

In any event, there are movies on your TV screen this evening and we’ve taken the liberty of picking out the most intriguing ones for your deliberation.

Here’s what we have for on this Thursday, 17 September…

Behind Enemy Lines – Film4 – 6.55pm

Owen Wilson tries his hand at being an action hero before the allure of saying “wow” in comedies fully took him over.

Das Boot: The Director’s Cut – TCM – 9pm

Our somewhat bold pick for tonight.

A six-part, 209-minute mini-series version of the famous submarine-based war film as overseen by director Wolfgang Petersen. You likely won’t be watching anything else tonight if you choose this one.

Jack Reacher: Never Go Back – Film4 – 9pm

The first Jack Reacher film is pretty great, even if fan complaints that Tom Cruise wasn’t tall enough for the character are valid enough. Still, this writer thinks he did an excellent job in an underrated throwback thriller.

The sequel, however… yeah, he probably should have taken the advice of that subtitle.

Taken 2 – ITV4 – 10pm

Father of the Year Liam Neeson strikes again.

The Incredible Hulk – Film4 – 11.20pm

A real what case of ‘what might have been’ as Edward Norton plays the angry green giant for the one and only time.

Mark Ruffalo would take on the restructured role by the time The Avengers rolled around and the rest is box office-conquering history.

Straight Outta Compton – ITV4 – 12.05am

The incredible true story of pioneering hip-hop outfit N.W.A. is your midnight movie.

Youth – Film4 – 1.30am

Michael Caine and Harvey Keitel muse on the whole ‘life’ thing.
