A star-studded supernatural thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

Dave Hanratty

Thursday Movie Mix.

The week is drawing to a close, yet movies are forever.

Here’s the best of the box on Thursday, 17 November…

Snow White and the Huntsman – SyFy – 6.14pm

The very precise time of 6.14pm, there.

Miracle on 34th Street – Film4 – 6.45pm

It’s the middle of November so let’s get the Christmas movies going, I guess.

Lethal Weapon 3 – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Riggs and Murtaugh are busted down to street cop level just in time for a new villain to emerge.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War – SyFy – 9pm

Sequel to the above Snow White movie.

High Plains Drifter – ITV4 – 9pm

Smart, twisty western starring Clint Eastwood.

Charlie’s Angels – Film4 – 9pm

Kristin Stewart leads the line-up of new Angels in a reboot that failed miserably at the box office and didn’t exactly light the fires of critics, either.

The Darkness – Legend – 9pm

A young boy brings five mysterious stones back home from a holiday to the Grand Canyon, unwittingly attracting evil forces that terrorise his family. Kevin Bacon stars.

Honeymoon – Horror Xtra – 9pm

A couple go on honeymoon in the woods. It doesn’t go well.

Flatliners – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm

Our main choice tonight.

A group of medical students (Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, Billy Baldwin) test the limits of life and death, with supernatural consequences.

The late Joel Schumacher directs with style, though it could use more horror elements. Still good, though.

There’s a remake of this. Don’t bother with it.

The Innkeepers – Horror Xtra – 11.15pm

Ti West, currently enjoying horror hits with X and Pearl, made this one in 2011. Two people who work in a small hotel find themselves confronted by a supernatural presence. It’s not great.

True Grit – ITV4 – 11.15pm

Offbeat western remake from the Coen Brothers, featuring Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and Hailee Steinfeld.

Baywatch – Film4 – 11.20pm

The Rock and Zac Efron do the ‘running on the beach in slow motion’ thing.

A Time to Kill – Turner Classic Movies – 11.25pm

A lawyer in Mississippi puts himself in the firing line when he takes on the case of a black man charged with the murder of two racist thugs who raped his young daughter.

Matthew McConaughey, Samuel L Jackson, Sandra Bullock, Donald Sutherland and Kevin Spacey lead the cast in this popular John Grisham adaptation.

Push – SyFy – 11.30pm

Forgotten sci-fi action thing with Chris Evans.

Becky – Legend – 12.35am

A father and daughter on holiday run afoul of escaped conflicts. It goes bad. Features the unusual sight of Kevin James as a right-wing psychopath.
