An action film classic is among the movies on TV tonight

Stephen Porzio

It boasts two incredible performances by John Travolta and Nicolas Cage.

Sadly, it is not quite the weekend. We have one day yet to go.

But that does not mean you can’t relax this Thursday night with a good movie.

Here’s what cinematic offerings are on the telly this evening.

In this Quentin Tarantino-directed comedy-drama, a washed-up actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his stunt double (Brad Pitt) struggle to recapture fame and success in ’60s LA.

Also co-starring Margot Robbie, a fellow JOE writer previously argued Once Upon a Time… is Tarantino’s best film to date.

Full Metal Jacket – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

Legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick directs this gritty and powerful Vietnam-war drama.

Behind Enemy Lines – ITV4 – 9pm

Another war film, this time starring Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson.

Suspicion – BBC Four – 9pm

This terrific thriller from Alfred Hitchcock centres on a young woman (Joan Fontaine) who comes to suspect her charming new husband (Cary Grant) is secretly planning to murder her.

The Vatican Tapes – Horror Channel – 9pm

A supernatural horror made by one of the directors behind the Crank films.

Robin Hood – Great! Movies Classic – 9pm

Patrick Bergin and Uma Thurman star in this ’90s version of the classic folk tale.

Angel Face – BBC Four – 10.35pm

An acclaimed ’50s neo-noir starring Robert Mitchum.

In this solid H.P. Lovecraft-inspired horror, a group of people become trapped in a hospital by a gathering of hooded cultists and grotesque creatures.

Face/Off – ITV4 – 11.10pm

Our pick for tonight, this ’90s action classic sees an FBI agent undergo facial transplant surgery to assume the identity of a criminal mastermind and foil a terrorist plot.

However, the criminal wakes up prematurely and seeks revenge.

Directed by acclaimed action filmmaker John Woo (Hard Boiled, The Killer), Face/Off boasts gloriously wild performances by stars John Travolta and Nicolas Cage, an impressively twisty screenplay and a ton of stylish set-pieces.

Buster – Great! Movies Classic – 11.10pm

Musician Phil Collins stars in this ’80s British crime comedy based on events from the Great Train Robbery.

We Own the Night – Turner Classic Movies – 11.25pm

If you missed this atmospheric and tense crime thriller after we recommended it earlier this week, now is your chance to catch it again.

Don’t Breathe – Film4 – 12.15am

A trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man (Stephen Lang) who it turns out isn’t as helpless as he seems in this very tense horror-thriller.
