It is literally one of the best science fiction movies of all time.
Netflix has just added 2023’s best hidden gem so far, but if you’re not in the mood for that one, here are all of the movies on TV for you to check out this evening, starting with…
Instant Family – FilmFour – 6.45pm
Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg headline this likeable comedy about a couple who adopt a teenager… and then find out their siblings are also without families.
Sweet Charity – BBC Four – 9pm
An okay-ish musical with Sammy Davis Jr. and Shirley MacLaine.
Once Upon A Time In Hollywood – RTÉ2 – 9pm
Arguably Tarantino’s most fun movie. Check out our interview with Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie about the movie right here:
Arrival – FilmFour – 9pm
Our main pick for this evening is Arrival. Coming from the director of Prisoners, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049 and Dune, this is a massively emotional and intelligent look at how mankind might react to the, well, arrival of extraterrestrial life on our planet. Amy Adams is the linguist and Jeremy Renner the physicist hired by the US army to attempt to communicate with the aliens, before the tensions could spill over into a worldwide war.
Arrival is also available to watch on Netflix.
Pain & Gain – Comedy Central – 9pm
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Anthony Mackie and Mark Wahlberg star in this action crime thriller from Michael Bay. If you can imagine a Coen Brothers movie without the awareness of subtlety, then you’re pretty much there.
Van Helsing – ITV4 – 9pm
The director of The Mummy was given free reign of Universal’s movie monsters for his next outing. So he drafted in Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale to fight Dracula, the Wolf Man AND Frankenstein. Campy to the max, fun entirely by accident.
Gravity – BBC One – 11.15pm
Another incredible sci-fi movie to choose from this evening, with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts left stranded in space following a fatal accident.
Collateral – FilmFour – 11.20pm
Tom Cruise gives good bad guy in this tense thriller from the director of Heat. Big Tom plays an assassin who hires a cab driver (Jamie Foxx) to drive him from one job to the next during a single night in LA.
A Good Man – ITV4 – 11.35pm
Steven Seagal in A Bad Movie.
