There is some very impressive talent working on Netflix’s new Irish thriller

Rory Cashin

The people involved in this have got us very excited to see it…

Based on a book by the same person who gave us the incredible The Handmaid’s Tale, from the director of cult-classic American Psycho, and an up-and-coming lead actress that is already making quite the career for herself, we were already very interested in Alias Grace, and that was before they gave us this first teaser…

Based on the true story of Grace Marks (played by Sarah Gadot, from the likes of Dracula Untold and A Royal Night Out), a poor, young Irish immigrant and domestic servant in Upper Canada who, along with stable hand James McDermott (played by Kerr Logan, previously seen in the likes of Game Of Thrones and Good Vibrations), was convicted of the brutal murders of their employer and his housekeeper in 1843.

James was hanged (174 year old spoilers!) while Grace was sentenced to life imprisonment. Grace became one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of 1840’s Canada for her supposed role in the sensational double murder, and was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail.

Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Grace was actually involved in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.

We’re sure Alias Grace will give us some interesting insight into just how involved Grace actually was…

We’ll know more when it arrives on Netflix from 3 November this year.
