OK, the headline is a little inaccurate. It does not do this Netflix addition justice to call it a series or even a documentary series. In reality it’s six full length documentaries made with the common goal of unearthing the corruption of big businesses.

Each episode is done by a different filmmaker and swerves between controversies VW emission coverup, HSBC’s connection to drug cartels, and the bizarre case and behaviour Martin Shkreli to smaller and less covered stories that are no less hard-hitting.

Each story tells the public about the greed and corruption from a mainly US viewpoint but almost every story is a global one.

It’s executive produced by Alex Gibney who’s known for Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief, Zero Days, and Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room.

He even takes full charge of an episode himself where he covers the VW emissions scandal even uncovering new shocking evidence about the extent of the deceit, and the alliance between the governments and the manufacturers who led the whole debacle start in the first place.

Another unmissable episode follows the story of Donald Trump, and the crucial role The Apprentice played in positioning him with the American public combined with Trump’s “reptilian, street-smart awareness of the power of media.”

The series was released on Netflix on 26 January and while the results of it may leave you choking and infuriated, it’s certainly worth watching if you’re looking for a new show to fill the long evenings.
