Kevin Costner. Woody Harrelson. Gangsters. Guns. We’re in!
A few months ago, our excitement levels were raised when Netflix announced that they were making a film about Bonnie and Clyde.
Granted, the infamous duo will always live in notoriety but for us, the main draw was the fact that Kevin Costner was returning to a role that sounded eerily familiar to the one he played in Brian De Palma’s beloved gangster drama, The Untouchables.
A man that’s driven by taking down an outlaw. Check.
A lawless time in US history. Check.
A stellar supporting cast. Check.
In many ways, Costner’s character in The Highwaymen does feel like a spiritual follow-up to his role as Elliot Ness and after seeing the first trailer, we’re even more intrigued. .
From director John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), The Highwaymen tells the untold true story of the legendary lawmen who brought down Bonnie and Clyde.
When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, two former Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done.
Having seen the trailer, we got strong vibes of The Untouchables, Hell or High Water, and Lawless. Aside from this, it’s practically impossible to Woody Harrelson in a cop film and not think about his superb performance in True Detective.
The outlaws made headlines. The lawmen made history.
All will be revealed when The Highwaymen is released on Netflix on 29 March.
