Game of Thrones Season 8

A Game of Thrones director confirmed the news and a few more details.

Things that took an eternity to happen in Game of Thrones: Daenerys crossing the Narrow Sea. House Stark to have one tiny morsel of happiness. Joffrey/Ramsay to get their comeuppance. The Night King breaching The Wall. Jon Snow smiling.

You get the point.

Well, now that we know Season 8 will be returning in April, we’re as excited as The Hound when he sees some chickens because the Great War is finally upon us.

On this note, one man who definitely knows what’s in store is David Nutter because he’s directing the Season 8 opener and during a recent Reddit AMA, he confirmed that each episode will be longer than an hour.

When asked about the length of the upcoming final season episodes, Nutter replied: “Season 8 episodes will all, I think, be longer than 60 minutes. They’ll be dancing around the bigger numbers, I know that for sure.”

Granted, he didn’t confirm if this was going to be 61 minutes, or 120 minutes (please, please, please) but it’s very encouraging news.

Nutter was also asked if fans should expect any surprises that are on the same level as the shock and awe that followed the Red Wedding – an episode he directed. Here’s what he had to say: “As far as Season 8 compared to the Red Wedding I just have to tell you — hang onto your seat ’cause it’s going to be special.”

As for the overall ending, Nutter said that fans will definitely be pleased with the spectacle on offer.

“I’m completely satisfied with how season 8 ends. I think that [showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss] did a tremendous job, and they took into consideration what the fans want, as well as what is right as far as storytelling is concerned. I guarantee there’s going to be lots of surprises and shocking moments, but it’s really very compelling stuff.”

Finally, the director was asked to describe the final season in three words. Nutter replied by saying: “Spectacular, inspiring, satisfying.”

Winter is here.
