Our favourite moments from last night’s Game of Thrones season finale (Spoiler alert… obviously)

That’s it then, Game of Thrones gone again for another year. Sigh. But hey, that was some finale to Season Four, are we right?

That’s it then, Game of Thrones gone again for another year. Sigh. But hey, that was some finale to Season Four, are we right?

Yes, it’s a crying shame that we’re going to have to wait the guts of a year for Game of Thrones to return to our screens, but when that time does come around there’ll be plenty to get excited about after Season Four went out with a bang last night.

Nobody should be surprised by the show’s capacity to, eh, surprise at this point, but for those who haven’t read the books, the show’s creators still managed to do just that last night.

There were a ridiculous amount of talking points, such as Tywin Lannister meeting his maker while sat half-naked on the jacks, Tyrion escaping inevitable death thanks to Jaime’s intervention and what had been developing into an interesting buddy comedy featuring Arya and the Hound coming to an end (or did it?) in the show’s characteristically gruesome circumstances.

In no particular order, here are our favourite moments from the Season Four finale.

Stannis is back!

Seriously, where the hell had he been?

Stannis’ amazingly-regimented and well-organised armies

armies

Just like the lads and ladies at Templemore.

The look between Jon Snow and Melisandre

melisandrelook

They’re going to end up getting together at some point, aren’t they?

A toast to absent friends

Well said Mance.

Mance Rayder’s balls of steel

mancerayder

‘We don’t kneel for anyone beyond the wall.’ You tell ’em Mance.

Daenerys having to lock up her dragons

daenarysdragons

First having to banish Ser Jorah and now having to lock up her dragons, Daenerys is having a rough time of it lately. Where’s Daario Naharis to ease the tension when you need him?

The incredibly vicious fight between Brienne and The Hound

briennehoundfight

Talk about fightin’ dirty. Jaysus!

Arya the merciless, leaving the Hound to die…

aryahound

Where did it all go wrong?

The kid from Love Actually actually being killed in terribly gory circumstances.

jojen

They killed Liam Neeson’s son! Nobody kills Liam Neeson’s son! He will find them, he will kill them etc. etc.

The embrace between Tyrion and Jaime

tyrionjaime

We think there’s something in our eye. Those damn onions.

Tyrion’s emotional murder of his former lover Shae…

tyrionshae

How could she?

…and the subsequent emotional murder of his father Tywin…

tyriontywin

…who was sitting on the jacks either about to (we would assume so considering how long he left Shae alone), or just after having, a crap.

All that Lannister gold and he still couldn’t afford a lock on the door, wha?

Come back soon Game of Thrones.
