Peaky Blinders fans lost their minds after the epic finale in the first episode of Season Four

What a start to the new series.

Paul Moore

Only Tommy could pull this off!

Within seconds of Season 4 kicking-off, Peaky Blinders fans were already chewing at their fingernails and that opening scene in Winson Green prison reminded us all of why we missed it so much!

Spoiler alert, obviously.

It’s impossible not to love John’s no f**ks given attitude as he went to the gallows. There was contrasting scenes for Aunt Polly though as her encounter with the noose has left her haunted, traumatised and addicted to cocaine.

As always, Tommy had a plan and it didn’t take long to reveal itself.

After the leader of the Peaky Blinders discovered letters from the King, Birmingham’s most beloved gang were basically given a get out of jail free card. In return for burning the King’s letters, Tommy has been given an OBE.

Who else would have the nerve to blackmail the British government, save his family of criminals and get rewarded for doing so?

Classic.

Despite his rising status, all isn’t well for Tommy. The leader of the Shelby gang hasn’t seen Arthur’s kids – or the child of John and Esme for that matter – as he lives in self-imposed exile with his son, Charlie.

Hookers, drugs and sex have replaced his family as he looks to null the pain.

Tommy’s business is also facing upheaval as the prospect of industrial action looms large. We did love the fiery introduction of Jessie Eden as she stood toe-to-toe with Tommy.

These problems pale in comparison, though, to the biggest threat that the Peaky Blinders have ever faced.

After the Blinders received the ‘Black Hand’ of the Sicilian Mafia, we were finally introduced to Adrien Brody’s new character, Luca Changretta.

We now know that he’s a man that’s out for revenge after the Peaky Blinders killed his father (Vicente) and brother (Angel).

This being said, as that gruesome, violent and brilliant scene in the kitchen showed, Tommy is well up for the fight and a war is coming.

Jesus, nobody saw that finale coming.

Roll on next week.
