OFFICIAL: Peaky Blinders creator has finished the scripts for Season 6

Peaky Blinders Season 6

Peaky Blinders Season 6 is set to start filming very soon.

It may be the early stages of January but who fancies a late Christmas present? After all, the Shelby family are far from conventional!

Well, one person that had a very busy Christmas is the writer/creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight.

Not only did Knight showcase his talent in the BBC’s latest adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but he also received a CBE in the Queen’s New Years Honours list too.

Well, the good news keeps on coming because in an interview with BBC, Knight confirmed that the scripts for Season 6 of the gangster drama are now finished.

“I’ve just finished writing series six and it’s the best yet, but we always say that,” he said.

In terms of Season 6, Dubliner Anthony Byrne will be returning to direct the new episodes and in doing so, he’ll become the first director to helm two different seasons of the gangster drama.

In an interview with GQ, Byrne previously said that he plans on shooting the season early this year.

“I’m reading the scripts at the moment, which Steven is writing. I start properly on series six in early November. Then we start shooting early next year (2020), that’s the plan,” he said.

In terms of the plot, very little is known about what Peaky Blinders Season 6 will involve, although prior to the release of Season 5, Steven Knight told JOE that the Shelbys will continue to have dealings in the US while largely avoiding one of the most infamous characters of the era, Al Capone.

When asked about the potential involvement of Capone and the Chicago mob, Knight said: “I’ve always not wanted to do that because I think it’s a bit of a minefield because it has been done a lot. The Americans do it well, they do their own mythology. This is our story though. Peaky is about Britain and Ireland. I never really wanted to go there (US). In Season 6 we will go west, but it will be in a different way.”

In a previous interview with The Guardian, Knight also confirmed that the character of Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin) will be returning for Peaky Blinders Season 6 and that the producers were looking to cast an actor for the role of Diana Mitford, Mosley’s second wife.

The continued presence of Mosley as a recurring antagonist in the show was always likely given the ending to Season 5 and his overall importance to British history.

Elsewhere, during a recent Reddit AMA, Knight reaffirmed his intention “to give Tommy Shelby redemption, that will be a happy ending” and suggesting that “in series 6 there will a figure from history who may surprise people.”

We’ve a very good idea about who that might be and you can read that here.
