Pic: Did anyone spot the ‘Divers are Wa**ers’ t-shirt on Second Captains Live last night?

Who are we kidding, you could hardly miss it…

Although it’s a fairly novel medium, live broadcasting also comes with an awful lot of pitfalls.

If you make a mistake there’s no comeback, there’s a chance that a joke that worked well in rehearsal will fall flat on its arse and, if there is an audience present, you have to trust them not to do anything stupid or, in the case of Second Captains Live last night, trust that they are dressed in attire that’s suitable for live television.

Unfortunately for RTE, one audience member who managed to secure a prime position right behind the couch on which the guests were sitting was wearing a t-shirt that was bound to cause offence to the more sensitive members of the viewing public, the majority of whom couldn’t fail to spot the message printed in very large letters on a green background.

We’re not sure of the identity of the wearer of the t-shirt and whether or not it was a deliberate ploy on his part to gain some exposure on national television, but thankfully for all concerned, the next time he was featured in shot he had zipped up his hooded top, probably at the behest of one of the show’s producers, or possibly the guy next to him who was spotted nudging him at various points throughout the show.

Hat-tip to Darrell Ryan and David Hanna for sending this one our way
