Introducing ‘Yo-Kai Watch’.
The TV cartoon has been around for a few years in Japan but the Nintendo DS game hit the shelves in the US yesterday. Much like Pokémon, the game will involve a human character going around capturing Poké-esque monsters called ‘yokai’.
Nintendo are hoping that the brand will take the world by storm just like Pokémon did back in the late nineties.
We watched the theme song from the TV show and to say we were confused would be a spectacular understatement. Here’s what we saw:
Fine so far, two humans and some kind of Red Pikachu.
We don’t know if we were supposed to notice this ghost flying by, but we did. We’re not sure what he’s up to.
Without warning the gang is flanked by an old man who is wearing nothing but a towel, and a cheerful leafy vegetable of some kind.
It all kicks off after that. Everyone is out in the streets. Our eyes were drawn to the bespectacled, sick-looking dog in the middle.
We really don’t know what this thing is supposed to be. Or where the ghost went for that matter. And shouldn’t these people be at work?
Say what you want about Pokémon, but at least they didn’t get in the way of traffic. Oh hey, it’s the ghost again!
Our verdict? We really don’t know. You win again, Japan.
