Fans of the show said it was “handled with great sensitivity.”

Sometimes emotion can come from the strangest of places and it was surely not on anybody’s mind to be shedding a tear when they sat down to watch last night’s episode of Room to Improve.

Headed up by Dermot Bannon, the episode focused on a couple, Brian and Kate, who were looking to give their bungalow with a view of the Rock of Cashel a major touch up.

The couple managed to create a lovely new home on a small budget and worked smartly through grants and time-frame changes. However, it was a different subject entirely that had viewers in tears towards the end of the episode.

Room to Improve viewers left devastated following emotional episode

Viewers were full of praise towards the couple on Sunday’s show for their openness towards the subject of them losing their baby girl after just 21 weeks of pregnancy.

“We’re devastated,” Brian said. “Kate’s doing okay, she’s doing as well as expected.”

Fans of the show were quick to praise the couple and the show, which decided to allow the couple to open up on what’s often seen as a “taboo” subject.

One person commented: “Such an emotional programme – 21 weeks is such a tough tough loss, the bravery was not the floor but continuing on with the filming with grace and dignity. Wishing a fantastic couple all the best in their gorgeous house.”

Another added: “What a lovely episode of Room to Improve. I’m in tears here for that lovely couple who lost a baby girl at 22 weeks. They are young so hopefully their baby girl will come in due course. So sad! The house turned out fabulous-I wish them happiness.”

A third said: “What a really tough time for them, on top of all the stress of the build and budgeting – glad they got the house they dreamt of & really wish them well for the future!”

A fourth commented: “Such lovely people, a poignant episode tonight, handled with great sensitivity”
