A classic Western movie is airing on TV today

If you miss it on TV, the film is also currently streaming on Netflix.

Set in the Old West, the film sees rambling man Emmett (Scott Glenn) assemble a group of misfit cowboys (played by Danny Glover, Kevin Cline and a young Kevin Costner).

After helping a wagon train of settlers track down a pack of thieves, Emmett and his men descend on the troubled town of Silverado to seek their fortunes.

"Soon after arriving, they discover that the town has fallen into the grasp of the greedy rancher Ethan McKendrick (Ray Baker) and the corrupt Sheriff Cobb (Brian Dennehy), with whom many of Emmett's men have unfinished business," the plot synopsis adds.

Co-written and directed by Lawrence Kasdan (who worked on the screenplays for The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark), Silverado's cast also includes Jeff Fahey, Jeff Goldblum, John Cleese, Linda Hunt and Rosanna Arquette.

Noteworthy for being Costner's first Western - pre-dating Dances with Wolves, Open Range, Wyatt Earp and Yellowstone - Silverado was credited with reviving the Hollywood Western in the '80s.

Critics praised it for retaining the type of story and sweeping vistas one associates with classic entries in the genre, while also infusing its tale with a more modern energy and style.

Silverado is airing today on the channel Legend at 11.35am. It is also currently streaming on Netflix.
