Simpsons movie sequel and Family Guy movie both in development

And a third big movie based on a fan-favourite animation (no, not Rick and Morty).

It is just as easy to complain about how far the quality levels of The Simpsons has fallen as it is to forget just how good it used to be.

While the folks behind the show have already talked about how they think the show should end, there is no sign of that end in sight, as the recent trailer for this year’s Treehouse Of Horror indicates.

That being said, one big oversight is The Simpsons Movie, which wasn’t just a commercial hit ($527 million at the worldwide box office), but also a critical hit (88% on Rotten Tomatoes), and features some genuinely hilarious jokes, including absolutely everything to do with this scene involving Tom Hanks:

So really, the big mystery is why has it been so long for a sequel to arrive, considering the first one was released over a decade ago.

Well, it looks like we won’t be waiting too much longer, as 20th Century Fox have announced that not only are they working on a Simpsons movie sequel, but they’ve also got feature-length movies for two of their other popular animation shows in the works.

As per the report via the Wall Street Journal:

“[20th Century Fox CEO Stacey Snider] Snider has emphasized a revamp of Fox’s approach to animation, bringing in a new partner to replace an expired deal with DreamWorks Animation after it was acquired by Comcast Corp.

“The film studio is partnering with the Fox television studio on a big-screen adaptation of the animated series Bob’s Burgers, a second Simpsons movie in development, and a Family Guy film that would mix animation with live action, said people with knowledge of the projects.”

Now, considering how long it takes for animated shows to actually get made, we wouldn’t anticipate these to arrive this side of 2020, but still, that is definitely three movies on the slate to look forward to!
