Movies on TV

It’s not quite Christmas holiday time yet.

Many of us have another week or two in work before we get any time off, which means this Sunday is a Sunday like any other. Filled with existential dread and sorrow.

And movies!

That’s right, there are movies on TV tonight and we’ve picked out the best seven (almost) for you to peruse.

Godzilla — RTÉ2 — 9pm

The 2014 remake of Godzilla where Godzilla is mainly the good guy. Definitely the kind of hero that we can get behind.

The Usual Suspects — ITV4 — 11.05pm

This movie has one of the greatest plot twists of any movie ever, and it’s worth watching for that reason alone. Disgraced actor Kevin Spacey also turns in what could be the performance of his career.

Ghostbusters — Comedy Central — 6.55pm

An iconic comedy starring Saturday Night Live legends like Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, as well as Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis. This is the kind of comedy that has been inspiring all of the best comedy movies for the last 30 years. Who you gonna call?

Executive Decision — ITV4 — 9pm

Steven Seagal. Terrorists on an airplane. Halle Berry. 1996.

The Mask — ITV2 — 8pm

Classic Jim Carrey. Up there with his career-defining performances, everybody should have seen Jim Carrey play The Mask at least once. Textbook weird comedy from the funnyman, and one of the most quotable movies of all time. Somebody stop me.

Sweeney Todd — SyFy — 10:30pm

Johnny Depp has won praise for his performance as Grindelwald in the latest Fantastic Beasts movie, but he’s probably even more sinister in this. A dark, gothic musical directed by Tim Burton and also starring Helena Bonham Carter and the late Alan Rickman, this is one to watch if you want a scare before bedtime.

Despicable Me — ITV2 — 6pm

Okay, so this isn’t technically a good film. Or even an acceptable film. In fact, it’s the film responsible for unleashing Minions on the world. But maybe you’re a sick freak who wants to watch it. We can’t stop you.
